Price: the unit matters more than the number

Buffer’s paid plans are priced per channel. Essentials is $5 a month for one channel, or $60 a year for one channel. A channel is one connected account, so five accounts on Essentials is $25 a month, not $5. Team is $10 a month per channel and adds unlimited members and approvals.

Bloom is flat. Pro is $4.99 a month, Plus is $12.99, and the price does not change with how many accounts you connect.

That comparison only favours Bloom if the accounts you want are ones Bloom supports. Five Buffer channels might include LinkedIn and Pinterest, which Bloom has neither of.

What each one actually publishes

Buffer publishes automatically to Bluesky, Facebook Pages, Instagram business and creator accounts, LinkedIn pages and profiles, Mastodon, Pinterest, Threads, TikTok business profiles, YouTube Shorts, Google Business Profiles and X. Reddit is not on that list.

On raw reach, this is not close: Buffer publishes to more networks, and publishes to Instagram and Facebook today.

The free plans are different shapes

Both are genuinely free with no time limit, and both include Bluesky. The difference is where the ceiling sits.

Buffer’s free plan gives you three channels and ten scheduled posts per channel at a time; publish or delete one and the slot comes back. Bloom’s free plan doesn’t cap how many posts you schedule or how many accounts you connect — its limits are 500MB of media storage and automatic posting to X, which needs a paid plan.

So: if you plan more than ten posts ahead on a channel, Buffer’s free plan runs out first. If you need a fourth or fifth account, Buffer’s free plan runs out first. If you want reliable Instagram publishing right now, Bloom’s free plan is not yet the answer at all.

AI, and the absence of it

Buffer includes AI writing help on every plan, including free, plus suggested replies and automatic observations about your performance.

Bloom has none of that, deliberately. There is no text generation anywhere in it — you get fill-in templates, a searchable library of human-written ideas and saved hashtag sets. If you want a tool to draft posts for you, Buffer is the better choice and this is not a close call. If generated captions are exactly what you are trying to get away from, see why Bloom leaves them out.

Analytics and teams

Buffer pulls your results from the platforms automatically: 30 days of history on free, unlimited on paid, with custom and branded reports higher up. Its Team plan adds unlimited members with approval workflows.

Bloom does neither. You log results by hand, and it works out your best days and hours from what you logged. Every Bloom account is for one person. What Bloom adds instead is money: an income ledger with CSV import, expenses, and a US quarterly tax estimate. None of the tools in this comparison offer that on their published plans.

Where Buffer is the better buy

Plainly, Buffer wins if you need any of these:

• Instagram and Facebook. Publishing is built but waiting on Meta’s App Review approval, so you can’t connect them yet. Every tool on this page publishes to both today.
• X is capped. Pro sends up to 5 X posts a day and none of them may contain a link; Plus lets 1 of them carry a link. The other tools don’t cap X posts.
• TikTok is a draft. Bloom uploads your video to your TikTok inbox and you tap to finish it. Most tools here publish to TikTok directly.
• Reddit, Threads, YouTube and Tumblr are kits. Bloom prepares the post for you to paste. That is not publishing.
• No LinkedIn and no Pinterest.
• Results are typed in by you. Bloom doesn’t import analytics from any platform, so “your best time to post” only works once you’ve logged a few results.
• One person per account. No seats, no approvals, no client workspaces.

Which one suits you

Choose Buffer if you post to LinkedIn or Pinterest, want TikTok published for you, need analytics without typing them in, work with other people, or want help writing.

Choose Bloom if you run several accounts on the networks it covers and don’t want to pay per channel, if you want your earnings and your posting in one place, or if you specifically want a tool with no generated text in it. Bluesky-first posters are the clearest fit today.

Plenty of people use a free plan on both for a month and keep whichever they open more. That costs nothing.
