Why scheduling tools charge extra for X (Twitter)
Short answer: because X charges them. Every post an app publishes on your behalf costs the app money, and a post that carries a link costs more than thirteen times as much. Here is the arithmetic, what it means for free plans, and the honest choices you have.
Free plan. No card needed. Works on the web, Android and iPhone.
The short answer
X’s developer platform bills apps per request on a pay-as-you-go credit system. On 2 October 2026, X’s own pricing page listed “Post: Create” at $0.015 per request and “Post: Create (with URL)” at $0.200 per request, with the note that prices are subject to change and the current rates live in the Developer Console. There is no free allowance for publishing on that page.
So when a scheduler publishes a post to X for you, it pays X about a cent and a half. If the post contains a link, it pays twenty cents. Multiply by every user and every post and a free plan that posts to X would lose money on every single post. That is why free schedulers skip X, cap it, or move it to a paid tier.
What that costs a scheduler
Take one person posting to X three times a day with a link in each post, which is normal for anyone promoting their own work. That is 3 × $0.20 × 30 = $18 a month in X fees for one user, before the scheduler has paid for anything else. Without links it is 3 × $0.015 × 30 = $1.35 a month.
The link is the expensive part. A plain post is cheap enough that a paid plan can absorb a few a day; a post with a URL costs more than many schedulers charge per user per month once you have a few of them a day.
| Posts a day | Without links | With a link in each |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $0.45 | $6.00 |
| 3 | $1.35 | $18.00 |
| 5 | $2.25 | $30.00 |
| 10 | $4.50 | $60.00 |

How Bloom handles it
Bloom’s free plan never spends a paid X call, which is why X posting is the one thing the free plan does not do automatically. On the free plan you still get the ready-to-post version of your post for X; you paste it yourself.
Pro ($4.99 a month) posts to X for you up to 5 times a day, with no links. Plus ($12.99 a month) keeps the 5 a day and lets 1 of them carry a link, because the post with your link in it is usually the one that earns. Those caps are not arbitrary: they are the point at which the X fees are covered by the plan price with a little left over. Raising the link allowance to two a day would add about $6 a month in X fees per user, which is why there isn’t a cheaper plan that includes it.
Everything else about X in Bloom is free: writing the post, fitting it to X’s length, scheduling it, and seeing it in your calendar next to Instagram, Facebook and Bluesky.
How other tools handle it
Patterns you will see across schedulers, as of 2 October 2026:
- X left off the free plan. Metricool’s free plan excludes X, and X needs a paid add-on even on its paid plans. Publer’s free plan also leaves X out, according to third-party summaries (its pricing page would not load for us, so treat that one as unconfirmed).
- X priced per channel. Buffer charges $5 a month per connected channel on Essentials, so an X account is $5 a month like any other channel. Bluesky, Instagram and Facebook do not cost Buffer per post the way X does, so this is the simplest way for a per-channel tool to absorb the fee.
- X included in a plan that starts at $29 or more. SocialBee (from $29) and Postiz (from $29) include X; at that price the per-post fee is a small share.
- Daily caps. Bloom’s approach: X on paid plans, with a daily cap and a separate allowance for posts with links.
None of these is dishonest. They are different answers to the same bill.
Your options if you post to X a lot
- Use X’s own scheduler for the link posts. X’s web composer has a schedule button. It is free, it is one post at a time, and it does not cost anyone an API fee. Use Bloom or another tool for the rest of your networks and schedule the handful of X posts with links directly in X.
- Keep links out of most X posts. A post without a URL costs an app $0.015, so caps on plain posts are generous. Put the link in a reply, in your bio, or in one post a day.
- Pay for a plan that includes it. If you post to X five or more times a day with links, a $29-and-up plan that includes X unlimited may simply be the right tool. Bloom is not that tool, and this page would be lying if it said otherwise.
- Treat X as copy-and-paste. Bloom’s free plan prepares every X post for you at the scheduled time; the paste is one tap on a phone.
Why X does this and the others do not
Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky and TikTok let approved apps publish without a per-post fee, within rate limits and review rules. X moved its developer platform to paid tiers in 2023 and, as of 2 October 2026, bills per request with pay-as-you-go credits. For an app, that turns every scheduled X post into a small purchase. For you, it means any tool offering “unlimited free X scheduling” is paying X out of its own pocket on every post, which does not last, or is not actually publishing for you.
If that changes, this page will change. The date at the top is when the prices were last read from X’s own documentation.
Frequently asked questions
How much does X charge apps to post?
On 2 October 2026, X’s API pricing page listed “Post: Create” at $0.015 per request and “Post: Create (with URL)” at $0.200 per request, billed from pre-paid credits. X says prices can change and the current rate is in its Developer Console.
Why is there no free X scheduler?
Because every post an app publishes to X costs the app money. A free plan that published to X would lose money on each post, so free plans skip X, cap it, or prepare the post for you to paste.
Can Bloom post to X for free?
On the free plan Bloom prepares each X post for you to paste at the scheduled time. Automatic X posting is on Pro (5 a day, no links) and Plus (1 of those may carry a link).
Why does a post with a link cost more?
X prices the two requests differently: a post containing a URL is billed at $0.200 against $0.015 for a plain post, as of the date on this page. X does not publish the reasoning; the practical effect is that link posts are the expensive kind for every app.
