Image sizes for every platform

Checked against each platform’s own documentation on 24 October 2026. Where a platform does not publish a pixel size, the table says it is a common size rather than an official one.

Bluesky takes photos of any shape up to 2MB each (the limit was 1MB until recently), and shows them uncropped in the post. A landscape or square photo at around 2,000 pixels wide is plenty.

Instagram: why 4:5 is still the tallest

Since 2025 Instagram’s profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 rectangle, and the Instagram app lets you post at 3:4. Apps that post for you, schedulers included, still go through Instagram’s publishing connection, which accepts photos from 4:5 (tall) to 1.91:1 (wide) and refuses anything outside that. So for a scheduled post, 1080 × 1350 is the tallest size that goes through. Keep your subject near the middle and the grid’s 3:4 crop leaves it alone.

If a photo is taller than 4:5, as a full-length portrait often is, Instagram turns it away. Bloom deals with that for you: it places the whole photo on a blurred copy of itself at the nearest shape Instagram accepts, so nothing is cropped and the post goes out. The “Fit on a blurred background” option above does the same thing, so you can see the result first.

Getting a sharp result

  1. Start bigger than the size you needShrinking keeps a photo sharp. Enlarging a small photo makes it soft, and the tool tells you when that is happening.
  2. Crop for the smallest screenCovers and banners are cut differently on phones and computers. Keep faces and words in the middle third.
  3. One photo, several sizesDownload a 4:5 for Instagram and Threads, a 16:9 for X and YouTube, and a 2:3 for Pinterest from the same original.
  4. Then schedule them togetherIn Bloom’s bulk scheduler you can add up to 60 photos or videos at once and give each its own time.

Frequently asked questions

What size should an Instagram post be?

1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5) for a portrait post, which takes up the most room in the feed. 1080 × 1080 for a square, 1080 × 566 for landscape.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

1280 × 720 pixels (16:9), at least 640 wide. YouTube accepts up to 2MB from a phone and 50MB from a computer.

What image size works on X?

X does not publish one, but 1600 × 900 (16:9) shows uncropped in the timeline. Images can be up to 5MB.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is read and resized in your browser and never leaves your device. The download is made on the page itself.

Why does my resized photo look blurry?

The original was smaller than the size you chose, so it had to be enlarged. Start from the largest version of the photo you have.
